The years have flown......

My baby is 2! Skylar's posing for a quick "ccheeezzee" on her birthday! She's been enjoying her new swing set as much as she can despite the recent weather see-saws we've had. Next time we run into a drought season, and/or you think the weather is too warm...buy a swingset. Plan an outdoor event. Plant flowers. Do these three things, and a little rain dance if you're feeling frisky...and I promise..it will rain and temps will go down into the 40's. Seriously. It did for us! We had grand plans for Skylar's birthday party to be outside. There were bubble wands....coloring tables...a new playhouse from Nana Jan and Papa Joe...the awesome new playset with climbing wall swings..slide and such...and the biggest thing...a moonwalk bouncer that looked like a crayola crayon house! Didn't happen. Weather went from 70's and sunny to low 50's and rain. Fun stuff. Soooo...we improvised. I set up a coloring table..(ie. covered in art paper coffee table) in our living room and brought out the markers and the finger paints! I know what you're thinking...am I kidding?? Would I do that? Absolutely....and I did. BUT...it was color wonder paint and markers! This stuff is the neatest. Only paints on color wonder paper. So not on clothes, furniture, or anything else....ummm I did say it won't "paint" on anything else. This is not to say the greasy concoction won't "get on" other things.....or in my child's case...she opted to use it as "ipstick" and "cheeks"....ie..lipstick and blush....at the end of the party....(She's seen me put on makeup too much I suppose!) The kids loved it anyway...or at least I think they did. We also opted for some bubble blowing in the living room. My carpet needs a good shampooing anyhow! Played some hokey pokey bday party music in the background and just let kids have fun. If nothing else....all were well fed and Skylar had a blast. :-) Now she's 2. Wow. Doesn't seem like she's been here 2 years already. Time flies...cliche' yes...but it's true. Life goes by us so fast. Age creeps up on us....years pass and we keep looking to tomorrow. Should we? Or should we stop and just be thankful for today. Live in the moment. I admire those that can do that. And sometimes, I do that. But I do so love to plan the next event.....or look ahead to what's coming the next week. And truly...I see no issue in that. As long as I'm living today "in today" and being thankful I woke up today. I think we should all plan for tomorrow...plan for the future....but take care to use our time, talents, and resources for what we can do today. Right now. Not tomorrow. IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER
By: Erma Bombeck
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the "good" living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed. I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching TV - and more while watching life.
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love yous"...more "I'm sorrys"...
But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it...live it...and never give it back.
I think we can all take a little piece of something away from her inspiring words. Soo....draw a big smiley face in the dust covered end table, leave those cute little handprints on the front door, take your shoes off and dance barefooted in the rain...(or the pollen covered grass)...take your pick ;-) I'll do the same............but I'll be wearing flip flops....
Have a happy TODAY!
